Podcast Episode #9: Meditation, why we should do it and why we don’t? Interview with Meditation instructor, Cathrina Read

Cathrina Read, better known as Cat, is a life long learner when it comes to the spiritual world. After spending many years in her teens and twenties traveling around India, Nepal, Tibet and China circling the Himalayas, visiting Buddhist temples and monasteries, she returned home in Australia to find that the Western world of work didn’t suit her spiritual goals. Yet somehow, she struggled to integrate the Buddhist forms of meditation she had learned into her daily Western life. That was until she discovered the science behind meditation – a pathway into a spiritual practice that wasn’t steeped in religion, rituals, and cultures which she didn’t feel she belonged to.
Today, Cat teaches yoga and meditation in her hometown of Perth, Western Australia. In this episode, we chat about the mental, emotional, and physical benefits of meditation. She also explains why despite all the research and science that demonstrate its benefits, so many people still find meditation a difficult practice to adopt and why it is often the last thing people try when they tackle a health or emotional issue. Finally, Cat shares some insight and useful tips for novices who want to give meditation a try.
